Which Trauma Therapy is Right for You?

Trauma therapy that works is in high demand these days in this post- traumatic world.

But which form of therapy is right for you?

If you have suffered complex trauma over a long period of time and especially if this occurred during childhood, you may first want to consider psychotherapy or counselling.

Talk therapy can help to make sense of what happened and it can, to a certain extend aid self awareness. Much will depend on the rapport and relationship with your therapist. Their experience, training, and how much personal work they have done are all factors that will play into how successful your therapy is likely to be.

After some time spent in talk therapy, a lot of clients find that there are limits to what they can achieve with its limited tools. Physiologically anchored trauma symptoms are not usually dismantled while talking in an ordinary state of awareness.

Trauma Symptoms are Often Resistant to Talk Therapy

Trauma symptoms are likely to persist even after years in counselling and to can continue to cause much disturbance. I am talking here about symptoms such as flashbacks, panic attacks, fears and phobias, anxiety and chronic pain.

After that, some people turn to techniques such as TRE (Trauma Release Therapy), yoga, meditation, and general self care. These are all good and helpful approaches that can improve your quality of life, yet they are non-specific in relation to the encoded traumatic memory that will continue producing symptoms.

Undoing these symptoms requires a different type of work that reaches much deeper into your subconscious mind. Among some other useful approaches, you can do this work with hypnosis or with Havening Techniques®.

Trauma Therapy That Works

These approaches create a space where parts of your brain that do not normally communicate with one another, can exchange information. This information exchange sets neuro-chemical processes in motion that can dismantle the traumatic encoding in your brain, specifically in amygdala or basal ganglia.

Once this process has completed, the traumatic response will cease. This means you can become symptom free and have your life back to live to your full potential.
As a sensorimotor trained psychotherapist with many years of experience in the trauma field, trained in hypnotherapy and Havening Techniques®, I draw on a wide variety of skills and can support you through this process.

If you are curious about trauma therapy in Galway, please feel free to call me for a chat to discuss your needs and concerns  and to potentially then work out a treatment plan that suits you and your situation.

As well as a face to face clinic, I operate an online clinic via Zoom, so I can work with you wherever you are located.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Regards,
