Havening Techniques® are a novel neuroscience based psychosensory treatment that utilises the body's electrical system to help your brain process difficult issues such as trauma, anxiety, phobias, depression, addictions and persistent negative emotions.
Gentle touch on arms, hands and face produces Delta brain waves which have an overall relaxing effect on your body and brain, and help your brain problem solve. Havening treatments enable your brain to dismantle deeply encoded traumatic imprints from the past.
How Does Havening Work?
The founders of Havening, Ron and Steven Ruden, spent 10 years reviewing research in neuroscience to find out how exactly how traumatic and otherwise disturbing memories are encoded in the brain. They identified that trauma creates synaptic encoding in the amygdala which remains in place permanently, unless certain receptors (known as AMPA receptors) on the synapses in the amygdala can be removed.
This is exactly what Havening allows your brain to achieve: during treatments your brain can dismantle these receptors. This in turn means that previously unbearable stimuli will then no longer carry a charge for you.
In other words, if you come to Havening for a fear of spiders, treatment will enable your brain to remove any receptors in the amygdala triggering this fear. At the end of treatment, thinking of spiders or looking at them won't cause the same fear response it did before. You may even be able to see something positive in spiders.
Once the processing is complete and the AMPA receptors have been removed, you will be symptom free and we can then start building resilience and a sense of wellbeing so that you can leave the four session programme living your life to your full potential.
