Fear and Phobia Therapy

Fear and phobia therapy can mostly be successful in just one session of hypnosis or Havening Techniques®. This is quite miraculous seeing that fears and phobias can affect your life tremendously and really limit what you can and cannot do.

The Most Common Fears and Phobias Are:

  • Arachnophobia, fear of spiders
  • Acrophobia, fear of heights
  • Aerophobia, fear of flying
  • claustrophobia, fear of confined or crowded spaces
  • Trypanophobia. The fear of injections
  • Cynophobia. The fear or dogs, often resulting from a bad childhood experience

How Does a Fear or Phobia Arise?

This is how phobias arise.

Typically, their origin will be in a traumatic event that your physiology interpreted as dangerous. In the case of a spider phobia, this event could be an early experience of a spider crawling on the child when they were a young baby unable to remove the spider or to run.

If escape is not possible, the event will be encoded in the amygdala permanently as traumatic, and all the associations that come with that memory, such as a garden with high trees, a warm summer's day, wearing a white outfit, will all get encoded alongside and can then all become potential triggers.

Any time that these conditions are met later in life, along with the sighting of a spider, or possibly even without it, will send the person into feelings of dread, fear and/ or panic.

This is not something you can "think your way out of" because a phobia is encoded so deeply in the subconscious. Fortunately, with the right tools at hand, it can be decoded very easily.

What to Expect From Your Sessions?

In a typical session on a fear or phobia, you will be asked to be asked to bring up the feeling state associated with the fear. Every time this feeling state comes into conscious awareness it becomes somewhat fragile and can, with the right tools, be dismantled.

You will find that while the feeling state may be quite intense at the start of the session, the intensity drops very quickly and before the end of the session you will typically reach a place where most or all of the disturbing feelings associated with the fear or phobia are removed.

If not all of the feelings are gone at this stage, some follow up work can help you resolve those as well.
If you are curious about working on fears and phobias with hypnosis or Havening Techniques®, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me for a chat. I provide these sessions at my private clinic in Galway as well as online via Zoom. I look forward to hearing from you.
